Box Turtles are found thoughout the Eastern and Central United States. There are many different kinds of Box Turtles, such as, Three Toed, Desert and Gulf Coast. They grow to about 6 inches long. There color can be tan, dark brown, yellow, orange and olive. They have thick nails for spreading their food and digging. Their feet are webbed like ducks. Their shell consists of 2 parts, the top half and the bottom half. The wrinkles in their skin helps them to pull their head, feet and arms into it's body which is protected by their shell. They live for about 40 years. These reptiles eat insects, worms, slugs, snails, mushrooms, fruit and wild berries. The box turtle sleeps through the winter after buring itself in soft soil.
