The Mohawks were part of the Iroquois nation which included Oneida, Seneca, Onondaga, and the Cayuga. The Iroquois confederacy was one of the most powerful Indian nations in North America. Joseph Brant was a major leader of the Mohawk tribe.
Mohawk men provide food for the community by hunting elk, deer, moose, bear, beaver, partridge, and wild turkey. Mohawk women also had jobs like raising the children, making clothing. Mohawk women also gathered fruits, nuts and wild potatoes. Spears, bows and arrows and a hatchet were traditional Indian weapons. Mohawks believed in a religion that saw life forces in many forms. Animals, objects an forces had a certain power called "Orenda".
