A Marine's Last Peaceful Thoughts

Leaning over the rail on the port side of the ship I watched the dolphins swim along with the battleship. The ship was crowded with Marines. This was just a few moments for me to spend alone. The dolphins below seemed so peaceful swimming in the Pacific Ocean. But for us Marines we were heading to the Island of Iwo Jima. I did not know what exactly lay ahead. But I knew it was not going to be peaceful.
